The Happy Jack ride will be held once again in the beautiful Medicine Bow National Forest. There will be a 25 mile LD ride and a 50 mile endurance ride on Saturday and Sunday.
Directions to Base Camp: Take I-80 to exit 323 at the summit (8640 ft) where you will see the Abe Lincoln Statue and rest area. Go north for a few hundred yards to the Junction of Hwy 210. Turn left on 210 (signs to Happy Jack Recreation area and Curt Gowdy State Park) Go 9.2 miles to the Blair-Wallace dirt road on your right . Turn south (right) and follow the signs and flagging 2 miles to base camp. Base camp is in an established camping area. Base camp is at 8000 ft. The area is historical as Native Americans considered this to be the "Land of Earth Born Spirits". In WWII, the area was used for military training and bombing runs. (Note: You can also take I-25 north or south to the Happy Jack Rd exit and go west until you come to the Blair Wallace turnoff.)
CERTIFIED WEED FREE HAY IS REQUIRED! I will have hay available but you must call and order by Aug 1. The NFS has said that they will issue a fine of up to $500 to anyone using non-certified hay plus violations could result in the cancellation of the ride in the future. PLEASE ABIDE BY THIS RULE! Processed feed is also okay.

Trail : The ride will occur in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests. Trails will be USFS 2 track and trail. There are major rock outcroppings, stream crossings and typical Rocky Mountain forests. New shoes and pads are recommended since much of the trail is decomposed crushed granite. Vet Checks: Clay Lilly DVM will be the head vet. All vet checks will be back in base camp. We will begin vetting horses at around 4-5:00pm on Friday. There will be plenty of horse water available but please bring your own drinking water. The weather in Laramie can be unpredictable. Prepare for everything from heat to snow. Horses will likely need blankets at night and the mornings will be cool.
Entry Fees/Start Times/Meals: The entry fee for both distances will be $85. Non-AERC members will be required to pay the $15 non-member fee. The 50 miler will start at 7:00am and the 25 miler will start at 8:00am. We will have dinner on Saturday at around 6:30pm when all riders have finished. Extra meals will be available for $8. I will not be taking pre-entries but PLEASE CALL AND LET ME KNOW YOU ARE COMING SO THAT I CAN PLAN AWARDS AND DINNER!!!
